  CPRS State Region 4 Update

The CPRS Board of Directors had their 1st Board Meeting in May. At the May meeting the Board discussed their goals for the upcoming year. The Board will be focusing on two areas:

1) Improving the effectiveness with Districts and Sections;

2) Improving the Board’s knowledge, process and function. From goal #1 the Board implemented a District/Section relationship task force to address implementing standardized by-laws for the Districts and Sections.

In addition, a tool kit will be provided to the District/Section Leadership that can be utilized to help with board job descriptions, the Ends Policies, perpetuating the board, role of CPRS, Staff and District/Sections.

The Branding project is moving forward. In depth interviews were held in May with local program and park users in southern and northern California regarding the personal and community benefits of park and recreation services. In addition, local elected officials will also be asked to give their input. From these interviews and input from the CPRS Board of Directors the hope is to have a sense of what the Brand promise will be for sometime in September. Further updates will be given as this project moves forward. If anyone has any further questions please feel free to contact me directly at (626) 917-3841 or email me at Adrian.Reynosa@westcovina.org.

Thank you,

Adrian Reynosa

  Legislative Update

As District XI Legislative Representative it is my responsibility to keep our members apprised of current state & federal legislation CPRS is tracking due to its impact on parks & recreation. Some of the proposed legislation may just contain minor clarification points while others can have a significant impact on your programs and/or operations depending on their outcome. As an organization, CPRS seeks public policy conditions that are favorable to your professional success and for the advancement of parks & recreation services to all Californians.

While it is important for each of our members to stay apprised of legislature and our legislators it can be very time consuming. That’s where the CPRS Legislature Committee comes into play by focusing on establishing annual legislative priorities, taking position(s) on proposed legislation, testifying at legislative hearings, communicating to members about CPRS legislative activities and tracking bills based on our priorities. Lastly, their committee is charged with increasing legislator awareness and increasing member knowledge. In addition to legislative updates I will present at our Board Meetings and for Valley

Views, I encourage each member to:

● Check the CPRS website’s legislation links to stay informed and be prepared;

● Participate in the monthly Legislative Conference Call with the next one

scheduled for Monday, July 14th, at 2 pm (call or email me for details)

• Please contact me at any time if you have a question please contact Julie Dorey at jdorey@ci.ontario.ca.us or by phone at (909) 382-2366.
