District XI ~ Agency Spotlight
City of Riverside
On
Saturday, October 27, 2007 Riverside's Youth Opportunity Center
was officially opened in grand style at Bobby Bonds Park. The
center will serve as a one-stop shop where those ages 14 to 22
can get job training, help with resumes, learn interviewing
skills and find out about job opportunities.
Other programs at the center
include individual and family counseling, assistance with
applying for college, anger management courses, a GED program,
tutoring, arts and science activities, a fitness and nutrition
program, movie nights, art shows and much more. With partners
like Friday night LIVE, Operation Safe House, Riverside Adult
Education and Riverside Community College, the center will focus
on .Empowering youth with the skills of tomorrow, Today!.

Trustworthiness ,
Respect,
Responsibility,
Fairness,
Caring
and
Citizenship:
These six Pillars of Character are ethical values that guide our
choices and are embedded in the mural on the wall of the YOC to
remind youth of their importance. The standards of conduct that
arise out of those values constitute the ground rule of ethics,
and therefore ethical decision making.
Designed and painted
specifically for the center by local artist, Antonio Martinez,
the mural has become a local landmark of new beginnings for the
Eastside neighborhood. The mural is full of life and vibrant
colors that is sure to inspire all who walk through the doors of
the YOC.
